Looking forward to gaming with you all

I have seen and joined so many frost maiden games that didn't get past the level 1 content that I gave up.

I find that custom stories and settings tend to have more longevity, and have made entirely to many 1st level characters to do that again.

In reply to Kara (msg # 30):

I am still trying to get into a Frost Maiden game. I've missed them every time one pops up.

I came in to that had been going a while. Like, they even had a discussion between the current players on which applicant to accept, which is cool.

I haven't been playing in for a very long time, especially considering the slow-down around the holidays. But 1 player is very infrequent, 1 player is VERY frequent lol, 1 is pretty steady and then 1 disappeared shortly after I joined unfortunately. But that's rpol for you.

Sorry to be the holdup. Varin is a consistent traveler but he’s also a storyteller - if there’s a festival then he’s probably been in town a week or so telling stories, given that’s how he keeps himself fed been more interesting work.

You're not Varin. The first person has just completed character creation, so we're still working on it.

Going over character sheets, I've noticed that some characters are foul-mouthed. So I just want to mention that swearing is one of my pet peeves. There will be no swearing in this game. If you want your character to swear, you have to mention that they are swearing, not use actual swear words.

Hi all, I will be playing a bard of mixed heritage. In real world terms, a Chinese mother with a norse father.

Should have my guy done by tomorrow sometime.

See we have quite a few bards but at least with my Chinese heritage my instruments shouldn't overlap.

Any newcomers to the town interested in a possible connection to arrive in town together. If so send me a PM so we can see what we can come up with.

Hmm...I'm not one of those, but do I assume correctly that we could use fantasy/old alternatives like 'bloody', 'damned', 'cursed', etc? And the following I just found below, lol?

Those three should be fine.

For some reason, that website isn't working for me.

Let's try it broken out so you can copy and paste it and remove the space maybe?

Not sure you want replacement curse words though, lol.

The site takes too long to respond. But translating a swear word into a different language would not be okay.

I tend to think of profanity as something of a writing crutch, if you think you need it then you probably did something wrong already or aren't making your insult specific enough to the target.

I agree in most cases cursing isn't needed, but sometimes on a rare occasion it is great for effect.

Agree to disagree. For me, it very much depends on the character and sometimes the situation. And very rarely directed at someone as an insult, usually emphasis or the like. Shrug. But whatever's whatever. Each to their own, and I wasn't planning on swearing left and right for Anders anyway, lol.

Working on your character sheets, I just realized that some classes provide proficiency with longswords, but not all martial weapons. As the scimitar  (seax) is more common than the longsword in Nordland, that proficiency will be with the scimitar instead. If you get a longsword for free from your class or background, that will be a scimitar instead.

Do you have any suggestions about how something like Counterspell would be handled in a pbp game?

I generally find that counterspells get ignored more than used in any kind of gameplay that isn't in person.  Reactions however show up fairly often.  I find that it is better to do reactions in whatever the next post from the triggering character is, if needed the post that started it can be rewritten a little bit but only enough to keep continuity going.
