The actor who played MASH Major Winchester, David Ogden Stiers died on March 3rd of cancer. He had a long and varied carrier and will be missed by his fans.

He was always wonderful to watch.

One of my favorite non-MASH roles that he played was the orchestra conductor in The Man With One Red Shoe.  It was a small part...only in about three minutes of the movie...but he imbued the character with so much life that he just about stole that part of the movie from Tom Hanks.

According to what I read he was an orchestra conductor in real life to. It's one of the many things he was known for.

I thought he was great as Jumba in Lilo & Stitch.  He was always fantastic as the straight man incomedic roles, but he was also good with comedy.

I will always be fond of his role as John Cusak's father in "Better Off Dead."
