Vampire: The Masquerade, 5th edition

Just bought the Fifth Edition Core Book. Wondering if any have started playing the game. Played the other versions of Owod, V20, NWOD, and COD. Just wanting to hear opinions on the new system.

Vampire: The Masquerade, 5th edition

Haven't been following V5's release at all. How does it compare to V20?

Vampire: The Masquerade, 5th edition

I have mixed feelings about it. It has streamlined the mechanics. Balanced the disciplines. Not certain they feel as powerful as other editions. Advanced the timeline to current date with more events. One major change is that players can resolve action in one dice roll in most cases. Focuses heavily on the vampire condition. Also, has done new mechanics on thin bloods. The source book for Camarilla is suppose to be out fairly soon

Vampire: The Masquerade, 5th edition

Read a little more the last couple days. So added to my original post and first impressions. Might be a little rambling.

The source book for Camarilla is suppose to be out fairly soon.

The Blood system is totally different. Instead of a blood pool; the players when they use a power they roll to rouse the blood the power is used no matter the roll, but if a fail happens the player suffers greater hunger. If, it is a critical fail they will suffer a compulsion based on the beast.

Hunger is rated 1 to 5, and players use what is called hunger dice equal to their hunger in their dice pool.

Example: Player rolls Intelligence + Stealth. Player has a 3 rating in both, so they would have a 6 dice pool. Their hunger is two, so their dice pool would have 4 regular dice and two hunger dice. Which are basically the same. The main difference with hunger dice is you roll a 1 on a hunger dice and fail that is a critical fail. If, you roll a 10 on a hunger dice it is a bestial success which means that the beast does something bestial o help you succeed. Like in the stealth example. some one is there that might see you the beast helps you eliminate them.

The character Creation is sort of neat. You gain skills from what profession you had, event, and hobbies. You set chronicle tenants and beliefs that can effect your humanity just like the normal things do.

The disciplines have been changed in some ways they seem more balanced.

The timeline has advanced, and the Inquisition is in full swing. London has been mostly purged of the Camarilla. The Anarchs have made great strides, and the Sabbat has been greatly hurt by the Inquisition since they do not maintain a Masquerade.

I have been watching the Roll4it Actual Play. The ST is excellent, but green to the 5th edition system which makes since considering it was released early August.

In many ways; the game is darker because the mechanics really enforce the bestial nature of being a Vampire. They have their first Source Book: The Camarilla will be released in a month or so. Followed up by the Anarch Source Book. The Combat system I have not reviewed, but the creator have tried to make everything a single roll with sometimes a counter roll like subterfuge versus insight to detect if some one is lying.

One other thing I like is that it has strong rules supporting Coteries and havens which I often felt were glossed over.

I am excited to try it out.
