Don't forget to look over the FAQs and Help sections to, located on the top Right of your browser screen.
Look over the Players wanted forum and others to. We got some very good writers and prolific posters here with a good welcoming attitude.

What ShadoPrism said.  If you intend to become a Game Master, definitely look at the GM's Help, too.  RPoL has a toolkit like no other for building and organizing a game.

Hang out in Community Chat and get to know the place a little; get a feel for how it works (and how it doesn't).

More importantly, when you're comfortable, dive in.  Get involved in or create a game or two, and go from there.
