Following and notifications for non-game topics?

Hi, new guy here. I would like to know when new comments are made to conversations I am interested in from forums like "Players Wanted", "Game Proposals, Input and Advice" and "GMs Wanted", but I don't see a way to make that happen.

In a game I am signed up for, I will see red, purple or blue notifications in the post number column of my dashboard. I want that for the other forums individual threads I am following in forums. Is it possible to do something like that for non-game conversations?

Thank you for any help or advice!

You don't get notifications for individual game threads . the colours indicate if there are new public or private messages (or both).  As long as you have access to a specific thread, you get notified of it (but it won't tell you if it's one thread, or a dozen of them).  Inside a game, you can see which threads are actually updated.

The same applies to the public forums, but since there are no private message threads in those forums, only red numbers are shown.

All users have access to all threads in any forum that they haven't been banned from, so any new post will light up the notification (note also, that you can not actually mark any individual thread, anywhere on the site, as being "followed").

In reply to flutsman (msg # 3):

You can also get in your User Preferences and set email notifications to send you a short note when new messages have been posted.  It's in the RPoL Preferences section at the bottom.
