4th Edition D&D

In reply to onlie2004 (msg # 14):

Ah, I see. I don't have the time to run a game right now, so that's why I'm posting here, looking for an interested GM. I'd be open to any module, or most all-ages or mature game concepts.

I've seen you bump quite a few times so I'll bite since 4e was my first edition DM-ing; what kind of story or theme are you looking for? I have most of the books physically and all of the books digitally.

EDIT: currently I was working on a castle-life based game for AD&D 1e, but I could easily move things around to make it 4e. To start you would mostly be spending a lot of time in the service of a Lord with minor adventures...then things escalate (dun dun dunnnn).

EDIT 2: I've also played a bit with the idea of a "Raid" (WoW style) for 4e, but it seems you're searching more for a story-based game.

Hey, sorry I missed this. This forum doesn't bring posts to the top in the usual way.

I'll work to make your concept work. I'm not very good at doing social posturing and negotiation, and treading moral boundaries (like, oh, the lord asked us to kill this guy, but he's actually a good guy, hmmm...) aren't typically my favorite. But I do like the idea of missions where we might just need to get something or prevent something rather than kill everything. I like the idea of being able to lose without the party having to be slaughtered.

I'm cool with a "raid" style game, I think. I'd just want there to be a bit more to them than monster killing. What D&D offers over WoW (based on my limited understanding of WoW) is the ability to offer more dynamic environments, multiple ways to get around, and just generally more challenges than the monsters themselves. Maybe WoW could hopping across a series of crumbling pillars over a raging underground river while being dive-bombed by giant bats, but D&D definitely could.

I'd be interested in getting in on this, too. I've been wanting to give 4E a try, especially in a game where the DM is flexible in allowing powers and abilities outside of combat, really focuses on exploration and immersion, and combat is not the entirety of the game.

I've been very tempted to try running a mid to high level game, something published like Revenge the Giants or Tomb of Horrors.

I'd definitely be up for Revenge of the Giants. I have to confess that I've never really understood the appeal of Tomb of Horrors as an actual "adventure," though I'd be willing to discuss it.

I'd also be down for playing 4e. I've heard mixed opinions on it and want to try it out to see if it's really as bad as people say it is, or something better.

I've been chatting with people about the Forgotten Realms in 4th Edition and now I'm eager to play in the setting. I'd just ask that the Neverwinter setting options not be included. The elf variants get a tad out of control.

They seem okay to me. The Realms has always had a bunch of elven variants. It's no worse than the dwarven subraces.

As someone who has 4th ed. PHB 1, 2 & 3 and the Psionic Powers Guide, I'd welcome an opportunity to dust these off.

Okay I am strongly considering running a game based on the Keep on the Shadowfell module and possibly beyond. I still love 4e and prefer playing but I might as well break my teeth into DMing. So expect a game set up tomorrow. It is too late for me to do anything now. But here is a breakdown of character creation and books allowed if you want to get a head start in creating a character.

PHBs I-III, backgrounds allowed but no character themes. The reason for this is that I am a new DM. Want to keep things a bit simplified. You may use the Forgotten Realms Player's Guide as well. I am a little leery about psionics and need to read up on it but am willing to allow it. Starting funds for equipment as per PHB I as well as 22 point buy for stats. Races as per PHBs and Forgotten Realms Player's Guide. More to come when I set up the game.
