I was wondering if there is anyone out there willing to run a game of L5R 4th edition?

I got it as a pdf as the setting interested me and I play the LCG, but games are exceedingly rare. I joined one a while ago on here, but it fizzled during setup. As such, I haven't tried out the game at all, beyond reading the book.

Is there anyone out there who is willing to run a game of it?

I would be more interested in the courts aspect than fighting the shadowlands, a Rokugan meets Game of Thrones style would be ideal.

I could be curious about the right L5R game as well.

Bumping to try for more interest - At least 3 players for a prospective GM, and I'm sure an advert would get more!

Um...I could do it. I've never run a Legend of the Five Rings game before though, and I've never run a game on this site ever but I could do it if nobody else wants to.

Did you have anything in mind? Or would it be something to talk about after setting up the game?

I know where I want everyone to start and I know where I want you to end, getting there is the real challenge for me.

I would make sure it is clear you are new to the site and system in the game, and state up front what type of game it will be. If it will be players marching into the shadowlands, the last thing you want are a bunch of pacifistic courtier applying!

I didn't make it clear how much experience I have the game (some but not much) but I did make it clear that I am new to the site.

As for your other concern... well this is a play by post game so I can tailor the experience is necessary without any hassle because I'll have days to work things out, but I wouldn't use your example as the opening to the game.

First of all throwing people into the Shadowlands is a big deal for a multitude of reasons, there's a reason no regular crusade style events happen in it.

Second of all even with my short experience I've learned that using the Shadowlands as endgame a material is the best course of action. There are a lot of nasty things that can happen to the player characters while you're there and continuing a game on with those effects plaguing your character afterwards tends to cause a lot of player discomfort.

Third and most importantly fighting monsters and demons tends to be the exact opposite reason that people come to this kind of game. I myself discovered this game when I was looking for an experienced other than fighting monsters and demons in the same tired and old Dungeons & Dragons game that you can find anywhere and everywhere.

And that's really what it comes down to. People who want to play this game, even just to try it, are doing it because they want to experience Rokugan. It's why the people who make this game hardly ever touch the world outside of Rokugan, because it's not about the rest of the world, it's about this place with its unique culture, lifestyle, and people.

I'm not sure how to end of this little rant so I guess I'll just finish it with this: if anybody who has read all of this is thinking of making a silent tank character whose only interested in fighting, please don't.

I also now realized I forgot to address the original question. My plan is to have the characters be new samurai going around trying to gain glory for their respected clans and themselves. In other words a pretty standard campaign, although as I said I do have an intended end in mind.

And I'm completely on board with focusing on what makes Rokugan special, and not just Japanese inspired D&D.

I've heard anyone who believes visiting The Wall and dealing with its challenges solely to be tiresome D&D cliche should GM / find a GM willing to run 'Mirror, Mirror'. The intro page has kept me from reading further (just in case I ever stumble across a game), but no one I know has said bad things about it.

Mirror, Mirror is an amazing module.

I'd prefer you run your own concept, but it's free and fan-made. In fact, Kaze no Shiro has a lot of free, useful L5R material. Still, food for thought on the Crab.

Alright I'll do it but I'll need to figure out how to run a game on this site first, and I'll need to think of an opening adventure. If push comes to shove I can just convert The Topaz Championship from 3rd Edition to 4th edition. That shouldn't be too hard and then I can start running a game from there.

Okay I think I know enough about this site (meaning that I know next to nothing) to at least start character creation. So who's still here besides Nu_Fenix so I know who to send an invite to?

If you put a link to the game here, a description of how you want people to apply there, and send a group rmail to everyone who said they're interested (if they're not, they'll say or stay quiet), that should work.
