Looking for some Solo/Small Group Roleplay! Concepts Within!

Looking for a Solo or maybe Small group roleplay! Check it out!

A nice solo game can let both players proceed at their own pace, which is nice! I'm also looking for some more personal, intimate stories so there's a lot to be tempted by! I'm fairly open system wise, although with solo games I often prefer Freeform. I tend towards female characters more out of preference than anything. Below I have a few concepts and notes, some more purely scenario based, and others more based around a particular character! Feel free to comment here or send me a PM if you're interested!

Rating: Open to any, but lean slightly towards mature or adult so we don't have to worry about restrictions.

Posting Rate: Ideally daily or more, but things do happen.

Things I'm Looking For: Descriptive Posting, Character Growth/Development, Science Fiction and Fantasy themes, fun and interesting Factions and Worlds.

Things I'm not Looking For: Purely system based 'roll-playing', Sex Based games (sexual content is fine), Mundane contemporary drama, GURPS.

Scenario Based Games:

Travel to Another World: While a common storytelling trope often used for simple power fantasies, the idea of being brought into a completely different world and needing to deal with the stress, culture shock, and more is always a fascinating concept. Most often done with a modern human to a science fiction or fantasy realm, but can be done in many other directions. It's fun to explore, especially if they start off ordinary and end up in a more extraordinary profession like an adventurer. Dealing with the transition and change in life is always fun.

Zero to Hero: Chronicling the rise of a more or less completely normal person, in any world, to becoming a hero is a great thing to explore. How does a peasant become a brave knight? Or a common office worker become a superheroine? Dealing with that clash between their ordinary life or upbringing and their new, more fantastic experiences is always a thrill.

Transformed: A character being transformed into another being like a monster, alien, race, or even gender is a fun idea to explore. They might have to explore a new society, get used to changed powers or abilities, and find a way to deal with their new life and living experiences. Can be played in a variety of settings, from far future sci-fi to modern urban fantasy to a whole fantasy world where humans are cursed to become something else eventually.

Stranded: Being stranded on a deadly or dangerous island and having to find ways to survive, adapt, and assimilate into the local civilizations is a fun idea to play around with. Whether a modern human must rely on much more primitive technology, a fantasy wizard has to become a shaman, or scientist revolutionizes the whole island, the possibilities are endless.

Character Based Games:

The Wanna-be Witch: A cheerful fangirl of superheroes, magicians, monsters and more, this character always has her heads in the clouds and excitement in her heart. She dreams of one day living out one of these fantastic dreams, but will it really be like what she expects? Will her hopes be dashed as she descends into horror? Or will she find enjoyment and excitement in what happens? However it goes, it'll be sure to be a wild ride...

The Secretive Scion: This character is the scion of a samurai (or something similar) clan, and on the surface is the perfect heir. Skilled in battle, silver of tongue, adept in the arts, they do their best to make their family proud. However, there is a dark secret to their struggle. They have been forced to hide their gender and inner nature from the world, trapped in a web of lies and deception. Will their secret be revealed? Will they triumph? Or are they forced to lose everything?

The Reluctant Knight: This character was born into a family of knights (or perhaps something similar like military officers/mecha pilots). They were raised to follow the same path of combat and chivalry, constantly drilling and working hard. However, they feel conflicted about following their path, and may desire something entirely different. Will they break free and find their own way through life? Or will they discover solace and pride in their duty and family? No matter what happens it'll be interesting to explore!

Looking for some Solo/Small Group Roleplay! Concepts Within!

Hi CaesarCV,
Would you be interested in a post-apoc game?

We have what I call a ‘thinking person’s zombie game’. It’s about the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse, reaching out to other groups of survivors, trying to make sense of the situation and rebuilding civilization - whilst still surviving the zombies. Not just your usual shoot-em-up.

There are currently 4 or 5 players, but they’re not always all in the same scenes together. The game has been running a long time, but the genre allows easy assimilation of new survivors and there's no need to read all the backlog. The game is generally slower paced than you’d prefer, but if you can spark another player or two with an idea, they might run with you, and I'd be very happy to speed it up.

We have descriptive posting, interesting factions, and you can develop your character as much as you like within the bounds of game-reality. You’ll need to survive, adapt and assimilate, and you’ll be able to play stress and culture-shock. How heroic your former-zero chooses to be is pretty open, and we have reluctant knights who were former police or soldiers coming to terms with the new world order.

My world’s your oyster. :)

In reply to CaesarCV (msg # 1):

If you are still looking for someone to run for you, I might be able to work something out for a few of these ideas, depending on the system you are interested in.  I can't consistently swing a daily post rate unfortunately with real life and all that, but I can pretty consistently do 2-4 posts a week, and often more.  If that interests you, feel free to send me a rMail to discuss further.

Caesar,

It's been a while, but if you're looking for a solo game and want to work with me again, I'm also looking for another game to run or collaborate with. Give me a PM if you want to revisit one of our prior adventures, or look into creating something new together.

Couple more concepts I came up with!

One character and one scenario.

The Budding Mad Scientist: This character is stoic, intelligent, and neither knows much of or cares terribly about social niceties. Depending on the setting she might be a scientist, alchemist, engineer, student or something far stranger and esoteric. She has a tendency to get obsessive, loving science, knowledge, and the pursuit of ever more amazing and complicated feats. Will her pursuit of knowledge and truth see her to greatness? Or will it be her end?

Stolen Time: A character awakens with a strange gap in their memory. They lived their ordinary life for some time, and then just woke up in an alley, a prison cell, or something else entirely. They've been doing things, but just what? They'll have to discover just what the 'other them' were up to, and probably get wrapped into all sorts of shenanigans. Easy to mix with Urban Fantasy or Sci-Fi scenarios, with the character maybe having been possessed, transformed, or otherwise controlled without their knowledge.

Do you have systems you prefer? Or are these only freeform?

In reply to RosstoFalstaff (msg # 8):

Freeform would be my preference to be honest, since I've found that most systems aren't as necessary in solo games. That being said, there are some systems I do tend to prefer like Powered by the Apocalypse style stuff, sometimes FATE, Savage Worlds, and a few others. I tend not to like heavier systems like GURPS or D&D 3.5 though as a warning.

In reply to CaesarCV (msg # 1):

Have you found your game yet?
If not, perhaps you would be interested in exploring my game setting?

The Forger of  Dreams campaign is a systemless game that I have been running for nearly 12 years with the same players. It is a swords and sorcery setting which would very much suit the 'zero to hero' trope. I prefer one-on-one gaming to group play, I like to focus on compelling narrative and interaction with NPCs. The setting is a sandbox, with countless story arcs and an overarching campaign arc, but characters will inevitably create their own story arcs too.

I've temporarily uploaded a map of the campaign world here:
http://snarlygribbly.org/tmp/Brithmark.jpg

If we were to play, your character's story would be completely separate from my ongoing campaign, set in a different time period and not constrained by the events of the campaign. i.e., an alternate reality of the world of the Forger of Dreams.

Let me know if you'd like to discuss it some more?

Would love for someone to take on the Budding Mad Scientist Roleplay concept! Preferably in a Modern/Urban Fantasy, Science Fiction/Future, or maybe Steampunk context! I've reproduced it below for convenience's sake!

Hi CaesarCV,

I saw your post about solo-type games. If interested, I run a Theogenesis game and can always add in another God as the game is still in its early stages. Very active posting. Have Solo threads for the Gods own realm and he can play with others/work in other realms at the same time. It allows for a lot of solo-work as well as potential group work (which does not have to wait for one or the other to proceed).

Anyhow, if interested check it out and you can RTJ me there. If not, no problem and hope you find what your looking for.

Thanks for the offer! I'm afraid I'm not really interested in God games though. Thanks again for offering!

Looking for some Solo/Small Group Roleplay! Concepts Within!

Hi CeaserCV,

I think I may have just what you're looking for!

My ADULT, freeform story hits many of the points that you've mentioned.

It's a zero-to-hero adventure story of epic proportions, where three (relatively) normal people travel to a strange world to become powerful 'gunslingers', post-apocalyptic knights with weird powers.

It's based on the Dark Tower series by Stephen King, and although you'll get a lot more out of it if you're a fan, no prior knowledge of King's multiverse is required. It crosses dimensions, incorporates elements from other fictional works. There are vampires, sorcerers, demons, cyborg animals, aliens, Lovecraftian horrors from beyond spacetime...the works!

Emphasis is on character development. We have two strong players who are in the beginning stages of overcoming their personal demons. We're at a critical junction, where everyone is just being introduced to the central conceit of the story, and it's a very exciting time! At the moment, both players are playing separate-but-parallel solo games, and that is how I intend to run much of the story. However, they will meet up soon, and will begin the process of becoming 'ka-tet', a group of warriors bound together by fate.

We have been going at a rate of one or two lengthy posts per week, but I can easily adapt to a quicker schedule.

If you're into Stephen King, I'd strongly suggest that you check us out. If you aren't, come on down anyways! You can lurk if you like, and get a feel for what we're about.

Long days and pleasant nights.
