Free-form but...

It's been a while since I've successfully delved into a free-form game.   For those that have run games that I've joined or participated in threads with me in the past few years, I really owe an apology to.

And while I've looked over the few new ones that have popped up (in the past month or so), I'm feeling really hesitant to join one of them.  It's because I tend to write posts that tend to be about a paragraph in length; yet I'm seeing proverbial page per post, and it's a bit off putting.

So, interested in joining a game?  Yes.   Not sure what the right one might be, though.

Free-form but...

I am a huge fan of free-forms and those are my preferred games. Usually the requirement is no one liners as other characters have nothing to respond to. The games I'm in with an actual length requirement is usually 2 paragraphs. The only times I see a massive wall of text as the usual are when there are large amounts of lore dumps or a solo slice of life type post. I would suggest reaching out to the GM of the games that interest you and confirming any sort of length requirement.

I sort of understand both sides of this conversation. Yes, more than a paragraph is better as far as giving other players something to reply to, but also, sometimes a paragraph is enough to move the scene, and more would be too much.

I’ve always held to whatever length moves the scene along and gives other players some way of interacting as well, then any length requirement I might have has been fulfilled. I tend to have some players that write a page or more and some that write a couple paragraphs and have been on games that have had both as well.

Ultimately, I think it’s only something a GM can answer for their post requirements.

Free-form but...

It partially has a lot (a lot) to do with how some writers are clearly capable of making longer posts...then get snobbish about it.    I encountered much the same problem in college when attempting to write term papers; I never understood how someone could take a page worth of material and make it into thirty pages.

I'm probably swerving a bit from a true "GM Wanted" post, which (i.e. a true GM Wanted thread) was never really my intention.  With perhaps one or two exceptions, I've never really found the kind of free-form game that scratches the itch...I tend to end up at more "adult-oriented" forum sites for those.

Some-days, I'm good.   Others...not so much.

And honestly, I'd rather not go somewhere else for any part of my (online) gaming experience.

Free-form but...

I run a board for solo free form games.  You can access it here

link to another game

Ostensibly, it's for super hero games. But I'm a bit fast and loose with my definition of super hero.  Really, any genre you'd find in either comic books or old pulp magazines.

I can run a solo or small group game on that board if you're interested.  RTJ me over there if you'd like.  We can discuss what kind of game you'd be interested in.  And yes, it would be Free Form.

Thanks.

None of the games that I run have / will have post-length rules aside, as StitchWitch mentioned above, from not leaving fellow roleplayers hanging by not providing sufficient actions/speech to respond to in a post, but that's just good sportsmanship.

You mentioned adult-oriented forum sites, so I am assuming that you'd be okay with an adult game?

If so, I am currently running the adult-rated (mentioning it twice so I don't run afoul of the rules) The Halcyon Society (link to the RTJ board -  link to a message in another game ). The basic premise is twofold: OOCly, it's a place for people who write quality roleplay (regardless of length, within reason) to come together and meet other active members of RPOL who also write quality roleplay. Kind of like networking, where it works by referrals into the group that players make.

The other premise is IC that it's a secret society (with actual secrets!) where you can play a guest, employee, or a member (initiate, adept or paragon) and learn about what is going on in the mysterious manor while meeting others who may help or hinder your discoveries.

I've designed the game specifically to cater to people of varying activity levels, but I do ask for 3-4 posts per week as a minimum simply because anything less than that can make it difficult to move a roleplay along in a timely way. Guests are the least plot-necessary, but for those willing to invest time into the game, they'll find themselves rewarded with prestige, access to new areas of the manor, custom portraits, etc.

You're more than welcome to have a look or send a message my way if you have any other queries. We're just starting up so it is a great time to join!

I've got a few you may like. In fact I recently became GM of another. I don' really have rules on post length except no one-liners. Mysel my own posts are usually between a paragraph or two depending on scene. They are adult. If interested I'll try to get links up.

Thank you for the responses, I'm still trying to decide exactly what course of action I'd like to take next.
