Forestfell: Advanced Dungeons & Dragons - First Edition

Game System: Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (1st Edition) using the OSRIC version of the rules (http://www.knights-n-knaves.com/osric/). OSRIC is somewhat clearer and better organised than the original rulebooks, plus it's very accessible (free to download in pdf and cheap to buy as a print copy).

Flavour: Resolutely "Old School". Death is a real prospect for reckless or unlucky players. It should not be assumed that encounters are carefully balanced to ensure that opposition strength is well matched to the player characters. Knowing when to run away or surrender is a vital skill. Clever play and well-executed plans are often more successful than relying on the whims of the dice.

Setting: Initially a dungeon ("Forestfell") of the DM's own creation. How things proceed from there is largely up to the players.

Style: A game, not an exercise in creative writing. Long, highly descriptive posts are neither required nor expected. It is anticipated that most posts will be no more than a couple of sentences in length, a short paragraph at most. The "Sample Play Session" in the OSRIC rulebook is a good illustration of the play style we are aiming for. Having said that, players are expected to post in English to the best of their ability. No lazy shorthand or textspeak!

Posting Frequency: The game will proceed at a relaxed but consistent pace. The expectation is that each participant will make around three posts per week. If you are unable to post for a period of time, or if you wish to leave the game, please let me know promptly.

DM: I began playing D&D in the early 80s, starting with Moldvay's Basic Set before progressing to 1E AD&D (as well as Runequest, Tunnels & Trolls, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Call of Cthulhu, etc.). I have run successful multi-year play-by-post and live online campaigns in the past.

Players: I am ideally looking for creative, proactive players who are willing to work with me to "fill in the gaps" in the game world. It is expected that the campaign direction will be very much player-led - it's your story as much as mine.
