IC- Freeform game based on semi-fantasy Scotland/Northern Eu
I had an idea to run a freeform game centered on a kingdom in a realm very similar to early medieval Scotland. Think a land like the one depicted in Brave. It would center on one particular kingdom, but have several clans that live nearby, as well as foreigners. I was considering having the other main human group be basically Norsemen, who trade with and raid the surrounding lands.
I was also considering having demihuman races, but basing them a bit more on celtic/norse myth than classic fantasy. Have dwarves be more classic fantasy but live in the mountains in the north in small, fortified communities. The elves and gnomes and other fae races be more like the alfar or Sidhe, and then have the existence of things like trolls, dragons, and other creatures be a possibility.
the game would also allow a level of magic, but it would be pretty rare in the setting, so those who have it would be viewed with suspicion, or given quite a bit of responsibility.
Or, if there was more interest, it could be a more realistic setting with less fantasy elements.
I was also wondering if people that are interested in this sort of game would be interested in one with a more direct story to play through, or a bit more free sandbox style, with players experiencing daily life while background plots develop and they can come to play.
