IC: AdEva: Get In The Robot! Edition

Evangelion is a classic 90s anime, which changed the entire anime industry. While it's impact has pretty much been replaced by the seasonal anime cycle, it's still a beloved series to many 90s otaku.

Adeptus Evangelion, on the other hand, is a hack of the Dark Heresy system to translate the fun of playing a teenager piloting a giant robot to battle a giant monster who wants to destroy the world. For a second time.

Now, I'm digging deep from my idea notebook to pull up these campaign ideas, which mostly centered around the Second Impact. Don't fight it, they've already happened. But you guys get to choose, or come up with your own which I might try to turn into horrific abominations of your original idea.

Idea 1: The Second Impact was the sudden detonation of unknown origins over the South Pole, destroying much of the land and causing a change in the Earth's Axis. Tidal waves, the global raise in water levels, and the disruption of normal seasonal cycles killed much of the population. This is officially the result of a large asteroid impacting the Earth.

The truth is that the Second Impact was caused by the Contact Experiment, conducted between a human and the First Angel, ADAM. This directly caused the creation of our enemy: The Angels.

Idea 2: The Second Impact was the sudden and complete freezing of the oceans below the Equator, thus causing what is known as a Fimbulwinter. With winter replacing all other seasons, much of the world has fallen to rioting over food stores, with a significant portion of the population freezing to death every winter. Rationing by the UN continues to this day. Officially, there is yet to be an explanation for the cause of the Second Impact, though some believe it is a case of water "communicating" and suddenly becoming Ice 9.

The true cause is believed to be a creature that has appeared in Antarctica, code-named LOKI. Besides freezing the oceans, LOKI has created the Jotun to conquer the rest of the Earth.

Idea 3: The Second Impact was the unexpected cessation of the Earth's rotation, causing the Earth to be tidally locked. The "day" section of Earth has become a parched desert where the water boils, while the "night" side is stuck in constant winter. The circle of "twilight" between the two contains the majority of humanity's remaining agriculture, which results in extensive rationing. Officially, the UN believes that a rare concurrence of the Earth's magnetic field and the Sun temporarily caused this situation.

The truth is that the Second Impact was caused by the appearance of two beings, one of light and the other of shadow. We possess the being of light, and we have reason to believe that a second organization has formed around the being of shadow.

Which edition?

Anyhow, my order of preference would be 3, 2, 1. I particularly like 3 because of the spoiler and the additional type of enemy that would seem to imply.

I would prefer 2.5 due to my familiarity with the Dark Heresy system and the system itself, however I would be fine with learning the 3.0/Borderline system. (After all, it is being continued under the project name of EYES, but that's just a design document at the moment.)

Now believe you me, Von_Das, I have a lot of enemy types. Just like each enemy in Evangelion was unique, I'm aiming to make each one interesting. For the one it implies though... Well, I think I might get my home group to help out a bit.

In terms of setting 3, I'm drawing from a very old religion for that one. One could say it's the oldest religion... Ahem, anyway, it'll be mechanically different than the others. If we go that route, we'll see.

I'm fine with any of them. Though Borderline is a very different system from 3.0. It's much clsoer to 2.5. It's also the one I prefer myself, though it's been a while. I remember it making Evangelion options more versatile.

Digging into Borderline a bit, I'm rather enjoying the additions. I'll be going with Adeptus Evangelion Borderline for this game, and I'll throw in the Customizer and Champion homebrew careers thrown in for variety... And for the love of anime.

After all, every Akito Tenkawa needs a Gai Daigoji... I doubt anyone is going to get that reference.

A quick update. Game has been made, just need to fill it, and to see if I want to make the references overt.

I might just make the references overt.
