IC: Xtreme Dungeonsport (GURPS, probably)

So, after listening to someone describe Xcrawl at length, I've decided I love the core concept of the game but dislike almost everything about how they implemented it.  I also have a handful of other ideas that I've been playing with that all kind of come together into the following:

The world of the players is our own, progressed about five hundred years.  While a low-grade warp drive has delivered nearby stars, humanity is still very much centered around Sol and has met no other intelligent life.  Despite a great number of nations existing, humanity is at a relatively stable state with strong treaties keeping the infighting to a minimum.  While there is still a large amount of disparity between social groups, most of those in the immediate vicinity of Earth are well off and need to work little.

In this environment, a number of sports and distractions have become popular, making their stars very wealthy.  One of the newest such endeavors is the Dungeon Entertainment League: Vorpal Edition (DELVE for short - it started out as just DEL, but then the sport got big enough that they brought in a marketing group and they found a way to flesh out the acronym).  DELVE features teams of players that take on the roles of mythical heroes and try to clear dungeons filled with vicious monsters and horrible traps for fame and prizes.  DELVErs compete against both the dungeons themselves and other DELVErs in the form of timed trials.

However, the DELVE isn't all that it seems.  Someone has need of teams of people trained to deal with the kinds of problems found in a dungeon using positively ancient techniques and "magic" (which is achieved through nanotech shenanigans).

So, the above is the general idea.  Is there interest?

My current thought is to run the game in GURPS4 at TL10-11 (which isn't overly important) and establish the characters at the DELVE finals for the year.  Afterward, the game gets "real", as it were (which I'm sure you can guess the plot twist).

I've tried to run GURPS X-Crawl once or twice and I love this spin on it. Count me in.

Well, it's always better to know something won't fly before you put all the work into it.

As far as variations on an idea go, I still want to do something with GURPS and magic + tech.  I'll put up a separate thread when I have a few ideas together.
