looking for advice and imput on westering europe seting

Having thoughts about a post apochapitic type setting where technology isn't working and magic is coming back...  so stuff like ferries, werewolfs, vampires, dragons, nightmare and dream creatures, and all sorts of things of myth showing up all over

So some things I could use help on...

I'm thinking of the starting place for a good thriving place would be people gathering stuff from a big city and building another smaller city near buy, moving into the city during the day to scavenge.  One that stuck around would be one that would be scavenging a big city with lots of sky scrapers.  I don't know much about western Europe but most the big cities are trying to discourage sky scrapers from what I hear.... I don't know if that's true but I don't know what a good setting would be....  what would be a good setting for a city with a LOT of metal and a lot of interesting magical stuff around.... preferably Greece or Brittan or such a palace with a LOT of well known magic in it's lore to dig into

Also any ideas on hooks for stories in area's that people think are cool outside of a starting area.....

And anyone think of ways people might develope to deal with zombies with out guns or magic as a reliable go to.... just modern know how, but resonance tech at best (anything else more advance would be unreliable)

Basically technology is a way of altering the world similar to magic... but something caused it to be disrupted and tech is 'fizzling' out in it's attempts to alter the world now while magic if flourishing because of the event.

Skyscrapers are not much of a thing in Europe. Paris doesn't want to build anything that would detract from the impact of the Eiffel Tower, for example. Most of the old cities are far more interested in their historical buildings.

Skyscrapers originated in America, and have only really been taken up by third world countries that are trying to compete with America in a sort of 'structure-measuring contest'.

However, buildings don't need to be tall to contain a lot of metal. Most modern buildings are steel core structures, so you'll find plenty of metal in any modern city.

Regarding magical history, the most famous are the ancient Greek mythology, the British mythology, the Norse mythology, and the German mythology (which spawned most of our fairy-tales).

Other countries have their myths, of course, but they'll take a lot more digging.

Hope that helps.

I wouldn't really consider Japan or South Korea to be third-world countries.

Several European cities has district with sky scrapers, Vienna for one has such an area next to the UN HQ, Paris has the La Defense district that is both aesthetically pleasing and very modern.

As for zombie dealing, a shot to the brain with a crossbow or bow is just as effective as a bullet and hacking someone limbs is easier with an axe.

axe and shield was what I was thinking too with zombies....

big buildings are more interesting though to explore, don't really have to be tall though do they?

But yah that's what I was getting at I don't think western Europe is well known for having lots of sky scrapers. But damn if the image of ruined cities and fallen and half fallen sky scrapers don't go hand in hand with the apocalypse!  XD would be nice to have one ore two!  >.>

London, Rotterdam and Frankfurt-am-Main are the key examples; all were heavily damaged in the Second World War. In fact, the last is nicknamed "Mainhattan".
