NetRunning in Cyberpunk or similar

So how does anyone run NetRunning in Cyberpunk, shadowrun or something similar and not make everyone wait a few days for them to finish their portion of the job so the rest of the team can then act?

Either don't run it in full detail.  Or do the Netrunning as a separate group number thread effectively private to a smaller group of people, run at the same time as the other activity, and with fewer people likely much faster, or at least in bigger jumps.

In reply to Hendell (msg # 2):

More or less what I was considering. I am just concerned about that time the team is getting ready to hit some installation and the netrunner wants to try and take control or at least minimize the electronic security. So now everyone has to wait for the netrunner to finish before we can proceed with the rest of the run as we won't know how the netrunners actions have helped or hindered the others.

Right now I am considering a couple of options...

- More or less ignore netrunning as it isn't reasonable in a RPOL's time delayed format

- Run for solo adventures but skip it for group runs

- Have the netrunner make a netrunning roll for group runs against set difficutlys. How well they do determines what bonus's/hindrances occur

- Run the netrun simultaneously with the others running and assume that they have succeeded and modify the payout at the end based upon the netrunners success or failure. IE the netrunner had to call on someone else to successfully complete the job if they failed

I would say mix 3 and 4.

Pre adventure rolls are just that, rolls.

During the meat space adventure the netrunner continues to do some kind of more detailed interaction that results in more detailed payout.

Hrmm. Thanks I'll think about how to implement that but I like it. Couple pre-rolls to see how things start and then some other stuff happening while they are running to see if they can help or possibly hinder at certain points.

Re: NetRunning in Cyberpunk or similar

The key to play by post is to do what the game needs, when it needs it, and some of that is guessing, some of it is not being stuck to a single style or paradigm.  And in all cases formatting tends to help, particularly if you have multiple simultaneous threads or groups of characters.

Re: NetRunning in Cyberpunk or similar

Taking cues from Blades in the Dark, use the effects of netrunning as flashbacks, discovered by players just in time, even if the characters 'knew about them' before the players do.

"Hey, isn't it a good thing I installed a back door last week that lets me deactivate the security on this floor?"
