[IC] Exploring Greyhawk (But there's a catch)

I've been wanting to run this game for a while. The gist of the campaign is: Run a party - starting from first level- that travels around the Flanaes, finding mysteries, exploring tombs, finding riches, and bumping into trouble and the occasional high stakes situation, all while visiting some places of note.

The group would start in the small village of Hommlet, and go from there. The year is 576, but time and seasons will advance, and the party's actions will have consequences. Now, we could run this in 5e or 2e (perhaps even in basic/LL).

However there's a catch. I'm a busy person, most of the time. I can be very active in the week before Easter, during most of June and July, And the period between December, January and part of February, but during the rest of the year I can only guarantee 1 solid DM post per week (on Sundays). So players would have to be able to play under these limitations, and be active among themselves during the rest of the week so they also can contribute a plot advancing post at least once per week (not that I won't post often, thanks to cellphones this is easier than ever, but I won't be able to give detailed descriptions or start a new combat, or detail a new location before that)

From experience I know I'm better as a DM when the game is less tactical/procedural and more narrative/freeform.

So, is this interesting to any of you?

Y... maybe.

I love love love Greyhawk. It's easily the most believable, sound and therefore immersive D&D setting in a way that many fantasy settings never even approach.

My personal problem is that all of my 2nd Ed. and all my Greyhawk stuff is stored five hours away, I have no idea about 5E and I've fallen out of love with the entire D&D line when 3E failed to make the game system anything beyond glorified miniature combat (I still have grudgingly played some Pathfinder but that's more on the strength of their publications than the system.

I agree.  I love Greyhawk but would need to catch up on 5E

Great idea for a game! I'd be in it for the long haul, so happy to go through faster and slower periods, and to do my part to keep the game engaging even during the slow periods.

Edit: I think 5e is a better game than 2e but I'm familiar with and happy to play both.

Hell, when you pretty much know when your slow periods are you could theoretically just park the characters somewhere where they can plain interact with one another, train up, build stuff with their skills etc.

It sounds like fun!  I still love my ToEE computer game, though I rarely get to play anymore, and going back to that world... 5e is the freshest version in my mind; I'd have to go back and read up on 2nd to refresh my memory.  And slower posting rates work for me, we could keep things rolling with small talk. :-D

In reply to Spire (msg # 2):

There's a free clone of 2e on the web. (For gold & glory). And also a free and legal way to access many of the rules. As for Greyhawk, I will post the relevant world info. The beauty of it is that most of the required supplements are lore.

This sounds pretty awesome to me. The slow play pace will be annoying the moment a fight breaks out, but that's just how it is with PbP games, pretty much. I'm good with 2nd edition or 5th, and very familiar with both sets of rules (even if it's been a while since I've used the AD&D2 rules for actual games).

I'm still working on the game, but I have some stuff so far. You can join to decide on a game system (tentatively 2nd edition, but could be 5th if there's a consensus) and to make a session zero.
