Advice/Interest Check

I would like to run one more game but I have too many ideas. Sadly I am not sure what would work well with the PbP format and what people are actually interested in playing. Let me know if you think the following ideas might sound interesting to someone and if you think the game would work well PbP or not.

Kult using Powered by Apocalypse. Kult deals with gnostic horror and hidden true worlds and navigating insanity as your perception of reality shifts. Not sure 20s, 80s, or now.

A Gurps game set in the nearish future. This is an old game concept of mine. A sprawling land war has broken out in Asia. Groups of mercenaries have played a huge role on all levels. Do they take a contract with a dubious General for parts they need for their old transports or help the local villagers even if it will use up the last of the fuel for the power armor. I was looking at potentially porting it to SWADE to make it easier for PbP

ConspiracyX using 2nd edition Conspiracy X rules. A secret organization has invited you in because you learned too much but could be useful. There are truths, aliens have been to earth and still are here, magic and psychics do exist too supposedly. But there is another organization that is using this for nefarious reasons. Your group is to uncover the secret conspiracies working behind the scenes. I’d likely set it 1990s but I think I could handle updating it to modern. My old concern, how in the world do you make a group without everyone sitting around a table? Is it possible because I would love to give it a try.

The Ward a Powered by Apocalypse game about hospital staff and their interpersonal interactions. Think medical dramas from Doctor Kildare, General Hospital, Mash, Saint Elsewhere, China Beach, and Grey’s Anatomy. This feels the easiest for PbP but probably the most niche.

Mutants and Masterminds 3rd set in a city of my own design, up and coming PL8 heroes just coming onto the scene.

Kult: no thanks
Gurps: might be OK... Much better if SWADE which is great for pbp as you say
ConspiracyX: oh yes! Awesome content. I've not seen a game using this on rpol.
The ward. No thanks (it's got Powered by Apocalypse in it)
Mutants and Masterminds. My very favourite. And my prefered power level. Would be great

A few comments make me curios. What in particular makes people not fond of PbtA? Is it the simplicity or maybe there are just so many?

I don't have a problem with PbtA in general. Apocalypse World was very well put together. It is a very specific kind of experience that does not necessarily suit every PbtA game that jumped on the hype-wagon, which can be chalked up to a certain kind of design laziness where they try to slot in elements that don't necessarily fit.

Laziness is perhaps the wrong word; I get the feeling that a lot of designers don't know *why* Apocalypse world worked, and thus do not really *get* the system tools it provided. Their enthusiasm outstripped their skill.

That’s is completely fair and it makes sense. The Ward was by magpie games just like Masks so I like their take on it. And it feels like Kult really ran with it making it mostly their own thing instead of just playbooks. I used to run it way back in the day with its own system where standard “disadvantages” were actually advantages. That addiction or whatever helped you stay bound to our shared “reality” and stay sane.

Yeah, I'm more familiar with the old school Kult rules, as jank as they could be.

Obviously this is just a personal view. For me it's in the list of rulesets so bad it's unplayable. It's about the way the rules don't work, and discourage effect RP. If you are interested rmail me, I don't want to derail the conversation. It might be Tortuga's point: I can't comment on that from experience but it is plausible.

I've seen mutants and masterminds work well in pbp before and the concept seems interesting. I can't speak for any of the other rule sets though.

Again thank you, I really appreciate the feed back. It has helped a lot. I think I have narrowed myself down to three concepts, SWADE for power armor mercenaries, ConspiracyX, and M&M3e.

II was going to ask how to do some of the collaborative stuff for generation in ConspiracyX but I think the best way might just have OOC threads for those conversations.
