Based on your two suggestions and the words that can be made by the letters in those two names, as provided by
https://scrabblewordfinder.org/solver, I have created your father. His name is even taken from those letters.
His name is Devon and his parents were Derrick and Alysanne nee Stark (a second cousin once removed to Ned Stark). Northern women seem to be popular in the family. Vance and Rodrik were his two uncles. And though there are cousins and second cousins, none of the above individuals are still alive.
From a young age, Devon liked playing with the family dogs and spent more time than appropriate for the heir of the house with them. Grandfather Derrick bought some hunting dogs and a war hound from House Cragborn to direct his son's attention. Though the overkindness, love, and candor he had picked up from the dogs never left him.
Growing up, Devon became a good hunter and a great warrior. But in his spare time he drank too much, he diced too much, and he danced too much.
He was married twice. Purple and Green are children of his second wife. There are no children from the first. Not that anyone ever talks of her. You don't even know what happened to her.
Some months ago, while Devon was out on a hunt with some others, they were attacked by an overwhelming force. And though the hunting party was more skilled and had better weapons, they were sorely outnumbered and out of armor.
The hunting party was able to kill a large number of their attackers, but all of them suffered many wounds. And one of Devon's wounds festered. It had a rancid smell. He clung to life for a couple of months before succumbing. At the rare times he was out of bed, stinking up the castle, he walked with a cane. His favorite dog always with him.
