01 - Beginnings (IC)
The heroes of these tales are all young and at the beginning of their careers. Through one method or another they left their homes to seek freedom, fortune or fame and recently ended up on Hyperion IX in Devon Province. There they established themselves and are currently based out of one of the city-states, in this case the one controlled by Emerich Rach.
The city is small by any standard, though it has a spaceport with landing pads scattered around, giving it an expansive feel. The central complex is the oldest, consisting of the first landing pad and the traffic control center. As the city doesn’t have a proper government and grew rather haphazardly, there is no rhyme or reason to the organization: houses, flop-houses, apartment buildings, taverns, bars, stores of every kind, and landing pads are scattered among each other. The Boss, Emerich, has an office complex just east of the central complex, a combination office building fortress with a private landing facility/spaceport. Residents of the city register with the organization and either seek permission to run a business or are enrolled in the service roster. The service roster is where the organization calls people to offer jobs or missions, usually for a paying client, and functions more like a clearing house or temp agency.
The amount of time you have on Hyperion IX is variable, each of you a different period, but all are established with some sort of living quarters (even if it is just a room at a flop house) and on the rolls for jobs from The Boss.
Each of you was contacted by the Rach organization about a job; as is the case with these sorts of jobs, the only details you were given were that it involved an off-world client and travel. You were told to bring any appropriate tools of the trade and travel necessities to a briefing. You packed your worldly belongings and made your way to the appointed location.
