The Setting

Scarlet Heroes is a sandbox game written by Kevin Crawford. One of the most important pieces of advice given in every Sine Nomine publication by Crawford is this: Never create more than you will need. For this reason, the setting may appear very vague. This is intentional - Setting creation should be a collaborative process, not one dictated to the players by a book or DM.

The World
The world is oceanic, with a small continent ruled over by the Immortal Shogun himself. Tiny archipelagos pepper the ocean, largely left wild.

The Ichuban Chain
Nobody can agree on the exact number of islands within the Ichuban Chain, the archipelago that forms an almost semi-circular shape in the Endless Ocean. The climate is tropical and the seas between islands are navigatable if one takes care (there are reefs and shoals that have claimed many ships).

The island chain is said to have once been home to a powerful Wu-Sorcerer - ruins on several islands bare the truth of this. Legends surround the individual - some painting her as a friend, others as a saint. There is a small fortune to be made in discovering the secrets of this ancient figure.

The Island of Kai Besil
Kai Besil is almost wholly untamed. Talamau is the only permanent settlement on the island, for the jungles teem with dangers.  The west end of the island is lower than the east, fading out into salt marshes along the western coast, with a few patches of scrub grassland where the salt has poisoned the soil for larger plants. The center of the
island is dominated by the volcano known as “the pillar of Kai Besil” by the sailors from the Shogunate.

The Setting

Tisbo
Sitting on a thin spur of stone amid the Ichuban Chain is the floating town of Tisbo. Made of broken ships, flotsam, and scraps of wood and canvas scavenged from the sea, the town is home to a unique culture of people who call themselves the 'Sea People.'  Central to their community is a temple where warrior monks learn their unique fighting art which they term 'Kraken Style'.

Tisbo has ties to settlements over the Ichuban Chain which include ancient obligations to send fighting monks should their allies ever need assistance.
