Gimrock will hold the rope and belay Percy as he descends to check out the path down and back up the opposite side.

Percy didn't expect traps at the bottom of the trap, so he descended, checked the pit, and readied to climb the other side. "We got another rope to hold while others climb the other side? I'll take it up and hold the rope while you all climb out of the pit." he asked and informed the others.

Percy goes down the rope into the pit, takes the proffered rope, and climbs the wall on the other side and lowers the rope for the next person to come up via the rope.

20:06, Today: Percy Blackshadow rolled 76 using 1d100.  Climb, 87 0r less. – 76

He ties the rope off around his waist and steadies himself for the mean time, while watching the other direction in case something comes upon them at the pit!

Gimrock looks around for something to anchor the rope on on this side of the pit.  If he can find something, he'll loop the rope over it and just use both ends together to descend rather than tie it off and lose the rope when the last person descends.  That'd also means that no one needs to trust his skill with knots.

Those should help quite a bit, especially for shorter, rounder, heavier folk like me Andry says when Anneth produces the spikes.

Percy have Mercy !! Percy finds 2 old backpacks while moving across the rocky bottom. searching the packs now or later Mr P ??

Anneth has spikes !! Anyone have something to pound one or two in with ?? A useable rock will do, pass a Dex rock for useable pounding ...

Who wants to descend last ?? I suppose you could pound 2 spikes as an X, pass the rope thru the X & let yourself down, then pull the rope thru the X ... Last one down, make a Dex roll to descend safely.

Still got a good length of rope. Old thieving trick ... Any blacksmith could make you a few spikes with a metal loop attached for just this purpose ... Not sure if pulley wheels have been invented yet.

Pitons are the ones with the loops on the end, for mountain climbing!

Percy checks the contents of the bags to see if anything useful is inside them.

OOC: Wheels yes; bearings to render the pulleys efficient, likely not.  The metallurgy and machining needs to create good bearings is relatively recent.

IC: Gimrock will take the spikes and look around for a rock to set them.  "Other than Percy, anyone agile enough to go down last and belay themselves?"

Good point Percy. Book says spikes, more for holding doors open or closed. Or as impromptu pitons.

Gimrock & Andry, make a Wisdom roll to set those spikes. B/X has no rules for aiding/helping/assisting one-another. This allows for 2 rolls to succeed. We can take the better one, i.e. the lowest one.

Percy = both packs are sliced up with anything of value having been removed. A few pieces of chopped paper having a few runes written on them. A couple of used blankets of dwarven making. A small bag of what looks like veggies. And one old wooden spike.

Time = I believe the 5th ten minute interval.

Percy, written in Runes. Nothing comprehensible to you. Could be pieces of something else, not likely a map. They appear to have been quickly or hap-hazardly torn apart.

Hmmm, Gimrock looks at these spikes wondering how to pound them into the chasm passage way's stone work ... That small hammer might work in a crack or such. There are several here.

Anneth sees a rock field down here, anyone falling into this place is having a bad landing ...

Waiting on Andry & Clayton ...

While Andry & clayton make their chasm traverse, Percy happens to look around while pondering his torn parchment pieces. And sees a small halfling sized door on the far wall. Old & wooden, semi-well blended into the chasm wall.

Sure the dwarf says, moving over to the door once he's able. He will give it a once over, looking at it to see how good of a construction job it is, before further investigation.

It looks old & decayed, but closer inspection reveals good construction underneath the ancient exterior. No rust on this lock either, paint makes it look old though. While pondering these findings, you also notice no footprints around this door either. Andry now starts tugging his beard ...
