Welcome, everyone! Go ahead and get started on your character sheets. Use the 27-point buy method to determine your Ability Scores. Don't roll for starting gold, but take the equipment provided by your Class and Background. And feel free to sell anything you don't want. And be sure to check out the "Greyhawk Rebooted pdf" in the Game Links.

And as a heads up, we'll still probably add one or two additional characters over the next day or so, so there will be more than you four.

Let me know if you have any questions. And send me a PM when you have a draft of your character sheet, and I'll look it over.

After my project tonight, I will dig into the creation and fleshing out of Old Yew, your local hermit who knows a thing or two about tending wounds and healing.

I'm hoping to get the story started within the next week, though it looks like I might have a busier than normal weekend, so we'll see...

As a heads up, I'll be messaging each of you individually first to discuss how your character is tied to Diamond Lake, and then we'll work on tying all of the characters together. Expect something from me in that regard soon. I have to run now.

I'd like to work out some prior relationships between characters in the OOC thread before posting the game thread.

Cyan (an apprentice wizard) and Rahne (a soldier at the garrison) are long-time residents of Diamond Lake, while the others are new(-ish) arrivals. We will assume that Cyan and Rahne know each other already. Everyone else should be connected to Cyan and/or Rahne in some way, as I'll be having those two bring everyone together to start the story.

I come from the hinterlands, anyone want to know this old healer?

I am from grayhawk; and came to Diamond Lake about 6 weeks ago.  Of course, I've spent about a month of that in a prison mine, arrested by the town watch for loitering.

Im a charming and gregarious person by nature, though.

I could easily know someone who was a healer, because one of his mining pals had needed some healing, because he'd found an odd moss in the mine and wanted to know if it was useful, or Kelsin wanted to believe that the lake was clear once.

He might know an apprentice wizard who had an interest in hearing about greyhawk, or who could comment on what beast might have made giant scratches in the rock (Saw with my own eyes!) or who could speak about the value of enchantments.

A soldier in the garrison who struck up a casual conversation about blades, or recognized kelsin from his time in 'jail' or who also wanted to hear greyhawk stories, might also be known.

I have more, someone pick up a thread or bring one.

Darakyn works as a guard for the Greysmere Covenant, a mining concern with offices in Diamond Lake. It's pretty boring work, but it pays enough to buy a pint or two in the evening and he has found a tavern that caters to soldiers that suits his temperament. There's a darts league in the pub. He's not very good, but he enjoys the rough camaraderie of the event and he has struck up a passing acquaintance with a few of the fellows including a soldier at the garrison called Rahne. He seems like a nice enough fellow.

Cyan fled a family of lesser nobility back in Nyrond who tried to force an arranged marriage for the sake of social climbing. Although she appreciates her education and loves the comfortable life, she despises her family’s snobbery. She would be curious about Rahne, Darakyn, and Old Yew, interested in hearing about their experiences. Maybe she’d spare an hour listening to Kelsin’s wild tales.

Anyone who could help her hide from her family would be treasured friends.

Rahne has lived in Diamond Lake her whole life. She is a devoted follower of Heironeous, and has been an active member of the garrison for the last few years, choosing to serve Heironeous in a more martial capacity.

I imagine she'd be familiar with most people around town, even if she just knew their faces and not their names. I think Kelsin would fall into that category--someone she recognizes and knows a little bit about, but doesn't have direct dealings with.

I like your suggestion for a connection, Darakyn. That makes sense to me.

And I'm sure she would have had ample opportunity to chat with Cyan over the years.

Perhaps Rahne could know Old Yew through some previous excursion into the surrounding lands. Maybe she and her fellow soldiers encountered him in the wilderness or even sought him out for his knowledge of the area while on an assignment.

People who know Old Yew would know he is loosely associated with the Bronzewood Lodge operating in the forests outside of the town.

Maybe we could post the map in the map section? Or just as a graphic in the narrative?

I don't have an image of the map to post. And the only relevant point of interest on it would be the entrance to the cairn, anyway.

Allustan does not have any information about the cairn, but, as Cyan suggested, he will be a useful resource in helping to identify anything the party finds inside.

Looks to me like Rayne is the nexus of connections...
