THE GREAT DAEDALUS DEBATE
No one knows exactly where it started, but it is widely believed it was on I-70 just a few miles west of the I-470 interchange not far from Kansas City. If anyone knows different they can't or won't talk about it. An unlabeled semi-tanker truck lost control while speeding, jack-knifed, and rolled. the tank ruptured like an over filled ballon and thousands of gallons of unidentified sludge sprayed in all directions coating roads, cars, and people with slime. Any attempts to backtrack the truck to its origin only met with failure. It had not passed through any weigh stations or ports of call that could be determined and the paperwork found inside the truck was three months out of date. The driver when he was finally cut from the mangled remains of the cab was not in a condition that could ever answer any questions.It started small, just a few people getting sick, some of them even went to the doctor, but no cause could be determined. Then it got worse. More and more people falling seriously ill in an expanding circle. Then some started dying, their bodies seeming to be almost tearing themselves apart for no reason. Again, no cause could be determined. 'Experts' were called in. Of course, how can you be an expert when you don't know what you're dealing with?
Then, as suddenly as it started, it stopped. The circle stopped expanding, fewer and fewer people became ill and even those who were sick began to recover, and doing so at a surprising rate. Often those who were the sickest recovered the fastest. But some of those who recovered are rumored to be different, some even twisted, at least that's the word on the street.
